So Im 20 years old and I was caught shoplifting at Kohls. I was hit with a Class A misdemeanor and I have court in two weeks. This is my first offense ever as an adult.

Back when I was 16 I was charged with theft of a library book. I was taken to the police station and arrested but I didnt go to court, didnt pay any fines, wasnt on probation or anything.

So I would like to know if my juvenile offense will affect my recent theft offense at all... will my recent one count as a 1st offense or 2nd offense ?

Re: Shoplifting at Store Name

Btw Im in Illinois and on the police report it says i took 114 worth of jewelry. The LP didnt put the shirt on the report so since its not on the report will it be mentioned in court or no ?

Re: Shoplifting at Store Name

Since your first theft was as a minor its not likely this will be second offense

Re: Shoplifting at Store Name

ok. what about the shirt incident.. if thats not on the police report will they talk about that in court or no since it was left off?

Re: Shoplifting at Store Name

So I shouldnt have to worry about much except 1st offense misdemeanor, civil demand, court and lawyer fees?

i got caught shoplifting a class C misdeamnor (two shirts worth under 50 $), and its my first time offense. they didnt call the cops just made me sign a paper saying i cant step on their property for a year. and gave me a notice that i will be getting a letter in the mail from Kohls attorney. then they let me go and i am 18. what should i do?

Stop stealing and stay out of Kohl's.
You will get a letter demanding you pay a couple hundred dollars penalty. Personally I would not pay it, but it is your choice. You are not obligated to pay anything until a judge orders you to.
I doubt you will hear anything further after receiving their silly demand letter.

Civil recovery services like Palmer and Reifler are very agressive at seeking these fines. Failure to pay could have some serious consequences. Its your call but personally the risks are too great to not pay
