I was in a grocery store earlier today and did not have the money to pay for some gorceries.
I stole $55 dollars worth of goods.
I am 19 years old and live in Florida.
The took me back to the office and made me fill out and sign two forms with my information and my ssn.
They took my picture with the items I stole.
They did not call the police or say anything about me having to go to court.
They told me I would recieve a fine in the mail anywhere from $250-$500.
I am so scared! I have never done anything bad before. I do not have anything on my record.

My questions are:

1) Will this go on my record even if the police were not involved?

2) Will I have to go to court?

3) How long does it take to recieve the fines?

Thank you for your time.

The only record should be with store and any retail theft database they might subscribe to

2) Will I have to go to court?
No tif you were not charged

3) How long does it take to recieve the fines?
Days, weeks sometimes, months. It depends on how busy they are

Thank you for the quick response!

I was not charged with anything that I know of. I was so upset at myself and nervous that I hardly asked any questions.

Can I be charged after the incident happend? Can they come back and file a criminal report?

They were very quiet, not intimidating ad they kept asking why I did it. My dad recently lost his job and I have no money because I am a college student. I feel so guilty for everything. I never wanted to do this.

They have until the statute of limitations runs out to file criminal charges (About one year). However that is really unlikely especially if you pay fine once it comes in mail
