So this week I did something really stupid. I was caught shoplifting from a very big store. They rang up the stuff in my bag and it totaled up to $22.

They did not call the police. They just took my information, such as my name, birthdate, and social security number. They told me that I would recieve a letter in the mail, which would state whether or not I would be fined. I was just wondering is this going to show up on my record? How much do you think the fine will be? Will I have to report this when I apply for jobs? Will employers be able to see this? How should I go about handling this situation?

You can stay out of the store, as the letter will inform you.
I'm sure the security officers told you the same thing.
Wait, read the letter in about 2 to 3 weeks, send them their money.
How much? I have no idea, but I hear it can be $500 or more.
Wait for the letter, it'll reveal all of their demands, stay out of their store and off their property.
If the cops don't get involved, you won't have a criminal record, allegedly.
But, they have probably entered your name in one of their databases tracking THIEVES and CROOKS.
That will likely keep you from getting employment in their sector.

As to who can see what, its all very hush hush and secret.
If I were you, I'd assume any retail employer can see it.

If there was no Police or court date the only record is with the store and any retail theft database they might subscribe to
