My boyfriend and I were caught shoplifting from a Wal-Mart store in KY, a floor watcher stopped us as we walked out the doors with 76$ in merchendise. Police were called, we were placed under arrest and served 14 hours in a detention center until our pretrial officer arrived and we were released on bond.

Court date is set for Thursday the 27th. We are trying to avoid any additional time to serve at all costs.

Neither of us have any sort of previous convictions and we both have clean records other than this charge.

What should we plea to get the best outcome? Should we hire a lawyer?

Help!?!

YES!! you should seek the advice of a Lawyer. When you do ask about Diversion as possible option for you. You can also visit the link in my signature line its for issues just like yours.

can you give me a quick explination of diversion so i kindof know what i'm asking for?

Diversion is a program for first (or in some cases 2nd time) offenders.

You do probation, community service, stay out of additional trouble for a few months or a year, take an honesty or integrity class/counseling, pay a fine and costs; the whole thing goes away.

It may vary from state to state, essentially they give you a chance to keep your record clean!!!

Its your best option to avoid a criminal record. If you go to site I gave you, you can read how others did this or asked similar questions.
