Today, i was caught shoplifting a $15 shirt from a Macy's in California. The police were not called and i was taken to the back room. They took down my information and social security number. They told me that i was going to be put in the the Macy's database and that i would go to jail if i was ever caught again. I was wondering if i would have to appear in court and about how much i would have to pay. Would this have an affect on my future job employment or appear on my permanent record? I am an 18yo college student.

There should be no court unless you reoffend since store has apparently not pressed charges. You can expect a civil fine to come in mail in next few days, weeks or even months but thats it

Thank you for the reply. I was also wondering.. Would this affect any background checks/ permanent records or my chances of employment? Also, after i pay the fine, will that be the end of it?

If criminal charges are not filed by store there is no record outsode of store or any retail theft database they might subscribe to. Once you pay fine yes this should be over unless you reoffend or tresspass
