Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Shoplifting in CA...First time

I'm 22 years old and I was just having the worst day of my life, failed a paper, got yelled at by my parents that morning for stupid stuff, found out my best friend is getting sicker ...one of the worst days ever. And despite my better judgement I shoplifted.

I got caught shoplifting at the jcpenny. I have never even gotten a traffic ticket. NEVER AGAIN I WILL DO THIS! .. they called me into the back filed a report, brought in a sheriff i got a citation not arrested or taken anywhere, i was released, i have a court date scheduled for January, the items were 100$ but they were returned to the store by the security, have a super clean record, but i can't afford a lawyer im a college student working to support my tuition. I am speaking to a lawyer on campus on Wednesday.Will i get sent to jail ? And how long does it take the summons to come in the mail? My parents can't find out because i will get kicked out.

Can I file a change of address before my court date? ...

I doubt you get a summons since you already have a court date. However whatever mail comes as result of this action like Civil Demand will go to whatever address you gave store. Changing your address "might" prevent letter from coming to your current address providing you give a forwarding address
