Recently, I got caught shoplifting at Store name. I've never stolen before and I have no idea what got into me. I'm an idiot and can't believe I would stoop to that level.
Here's an abbreviated version- I put the $94.50 worth of merchandise in my purse, walked out the store where security personnel stopped me. We went up to their office where I immediately gave up the items and was very cooperative. Then they filed papers and took a picture of me so that I cannot come into Store name again. They told me I had to pay a Civil fee of $500 either now or they would bill me later. I paid right then with my credit card and I have a copy of the receipt. They called the police who took my to the jail, booked me, and I had someone bail me out and I left the jail 5 hours later.
I have never been into any sort of trouble, I am a 21 year old girl, and I am really looking to get a punishment without a criminal record. I'm unsure whether or not hiring a lawyer would be worth the money. I was charged with a misdemeanor and I don't know how this process works.
If someone could please tell me about the diversions programs and if I could qualify and if I will have a criminal record.
Thank you so much for your help!

Of course its worth it to have an Attorney. An Attorney will know your local laws, Judges and, DA's. Diversion programs vary as do their availablilty. i suggest you starft calling lawyers and set up free consultations. Its during these consultations you can ask if Diversion is available in your case as well as each Attorney's fee
