Hello I'm new here and couldn't find exactly where to put this question, hope this area is ok.

Anyway here goes:

Circa 4 years ago I got caught with an item less than 10 dollars from a grocery store the cops were called I got arrested, released, I couldnt afford the fines at the time so I didn't pay. The grocery store itself (not the court) sent a letter requesting I pay them some money (cant remember like 400) I never paid that either.

I figured eventually for not paying the court costs/fines I would get a warrant of some kind, well It's been 4 years or so and I havent heard anything since about this from the courts nor the grocery store. So what happened?

I'm getting ready to move into this place and I know they do a background check etc and didnt want this to be on there.

PS This was also my 1st offense for shoplifitng and havent done it since. It was actually a mistake (carrying too much put it in my pocket & forgot, paid for my other stuff, shopped there for over a decade) regardless this is what went down.

You can search several online sites and try to determine f your warrant exists.

For petty crimes, some warrants get recalled after a few years.

MO has an online court site operated by the state.
Google it.

The demand letter is not an ongoing issue which will harm you or hurt your criminal record. It probably dinged your FICO.

I've searched casenet (for Missouri) which is for Kansas City, it happened in Independence which is a suburb of KC but there was nothing about it, it did had old stuff of mine that I took care of long ago (landlord dispute etc). Nor is there anything about it on Municipal Court Ticket Information and Payment System. The site for the Independence court only lets you pay traffic tickets online and you must have the ticket number.

IDK if KC court sites would include suburbs in its metropolitan area or not, I figured it would since when I searched some of these sites other people with my name had cases/warrants that happened in St. Louis, Columbia etc and those aren't even KC metro areas.

Call the clerk of the court and ask about it.

Tell them you think you paid it, but want to make sure.

If you owe it, simply go in and pay it off.

Easy peasy, so cheesy.
