Hi
I was caught shoplifting at a local store in Mass and was NOT arrested, it was filled as a criminal complaint, and i also got a court date. Then yesterday the Attorneys who are representing the store, sent a letter saying that i have to pay an X amount of dollars. Does this mean that if i pay X amount that i would have settled this matter out of court and do i still have to appear in front of the Magistrate/Judge. Also i can't afford a lawyer can i ask one be appointed for me. Also this is my first offense.
Any help is appreciated
