ok so last night me and my friends went to walmart and we were gonna pull a prank to grab a bunch of weird items and silly string the items in the store, however we forgot to grab a cart and some of our stuff so we put them in a bag and we were gonna leave it by the entrance, however while putting the stuff in the bag, a worker saw us and as we were heading towards the entrance they stopped us and accused us of shoplifting, WE DID not leave the store with the items, we were passed the alarms but we gonna stop infront of the doors, which i did, to look for some of my friends but got stopped before they could come inside because the rest were waiting outside with the rest of the stuff. But we were also stopped by one of their workers, like i said before the rest of the group could come in, we told them we were just doing it as a prank, only i got busted because the bag was mine.

Since i didnt leave the store and had no intention of taking it, however instead of saying it was a prank i said it was a joke...heat of the moment causes me to use the wrong wording, they still charged me with shoplifting and said i dont have to apprear in court but i probably should since the ticket was over 500 dollars, do i need an attorney? i dont know how to find one and would prefer to not get one and just tell the truth but its this is a first offense, ive never done anything like this. Please help i dont really know what to do, i am going to plea not guilty and tell them the truth but i need some advice on what everyone thinks.

All we really took was some chicken, lip stuff and markets, and some earrings, like i said just a bunch of random things to play a joke. so i didnt think it was gonna be a big deal and i didnt have any idea it was gonna turn out this way, and im truly sorry i cant stop thinking about this, it was my first offense ever, and i have a clear record. I dont know how long this will be on my record.

Yes you need a Lawyer a criminal conviction will follow you for life. Now you dont mention state as that would help since we dont know if you hit felony levels or not.

see i wasnt sure if i should get one, because the cops never told me i should get one if im making a plea...they made it sound so simple, but the more i research it the more people are recommending people in the shoplifting situation to get a lawyer or attorney, i wasnt arrested or anything, they just gave me a ticket, they never once mentioned an attorney or a lawyer, so im not sure if i need one, do i need to pay for one? or can i request for one now, even after ive been questioned and the forms have been written up? im just going to court to make a plea, and its just a small court so i wasnt sure

You concealed merchandise and passed point of sale, you shoplifted. You're done.
I'm willing to bet if the employee didn't stop you, you would have kept on going.

Now all the BS aside, get a lawyer, hope you can get in deversion, and stop stealing.
