My friend and I decided to be stupid and try and wheel out alcohol from a Stop and Shop without being detected (we are under age). We covered it up with other goods, but when we left were chased down in the parking lot and caught. We were charged with possession of alcohol by a minor, larceny, and conspiracy to commit larceny.I am 17 and my friend is 18. They did not call my parents and only gave me a summons. I can't have my parents find out about this, I need to know if they plan on sending anything to my house in the mail regarding this, or if the summons was all they were going to give me. Any feedback is appreciated.

Dude you best tell your parents. First off as a minor your parents will have to be in court. Second as a minor the Civil Demand the store is likely to send you will come addressed to them (your parents)

what is a civil demand? do they have to send one to my address even if the police took action? they got all their merchandise back and it was in good condition.

State laws allow retailer to sue shoplifters for damages this suit is called "Civil Demand" since your a minor the letter goes to your parents. This fine is unrelated to any court fines or cost that will come up in criminal case. The cost of the Civil Demand will depend on state law and the value of what you stole
