i've learnt the biggest lesson of my life....my English is no good ,,i do not know what to say...i know i am very worong..my life could never be the same again...

i caught shoplifting about $180 one month ago. what happened is the store security took me to a room, the police was there as well. i signed a paper says that i took what items from the store without pay ,,how much each one of it. they took a picture of me and all my details...they took my student ID..ask where am i come from...what my major...at first the police want send me to court...and then i do not know for what reason ,,they did not ,,,the police ask me to pay for the item. i did, and then they let me go. i ask whether i can come back to the store again ,,,they said yes..

i am an international student. do not have any record before...but i still have about 2 years study to compelet...i think i will have a criminal record...but not sure ...the thing is i am in my home country now, will my student visa got cancelled because of this? can i come back to study any more? if i failed my exam ,,,will i be able to extened my visa in this situation. please tell me what to do. thanks a lot

sorry ...may i ask can i come back to australia if i have the record? is it a arrest record? or a criminal record?

thanks for your reply....will this record on my home country? what if other countries? can i study there?

The fact you are from another country complicates things. Your rights may have been violated if you wished to speak to your embassy, etc., and weren't allowed to. There's a possibility you won't have a criminal record. Try to speak to an immigration attorney about what happened.

Good Luck.

home country is China, study in Australia....will i be arrested in the airport if i go back. if i should not go back, what should i do ,,please help thanks a lot

So you are now in China, and you wish to continue studying in Australia.

For one thing, this site is primarily for the USA. I am unaware of Australian sites, but there may be some for you to choose.

I would recommend talking to an Australian immigration attorney, and asking them to find out if there are any outstanding warrants for you, and whatever advice they may have that is pertinent.

Your case is complex enough wheras I doubt you'll get all the information you require via web sites.

Good Luck. There is a STRONG chance you don't have a criminal record. The police/store may have decided not to bother as you are not a citizen, and you paid restitution. I'd hate to see you not continue your studies over something so relatively minor.

As far as arrest record goes, I'm not sure what Australia does. I would think that if you were to apply for a job in the future, this doesn't come up.

thank you very much for your advise...i can not thank you enough...i do not know how to contact a Australian immigration attorney...i did send emails ...but no one replys me ...i know i should not ask this from you...but do you know any Australian immigration attorney...i can not pay them now..but i will pay whatever i should once i arrive Australia...if you know any....if you donot know ..thank you all the same...you already help me a lot!!!

sorry....If i cannot find an Australian immigration attorney, will i be arrested in the airport if i go back? what do you think? thanks!

An Australian criminal defense attorney may be able to do a check for you to see if there are any outstanding warrants for you, plus they may offer you more advice. I'm not sure how much they'd charge, but for the search I'm sure they'll want you to pay something.

Good Luck.

I wish I could help you more, but I can't. Your case is somewhat complex, something I've never come accross, and somewhat exceptional. . .

sry to bother u again...in my situation,,,i definitely have an arrest record, right? what should i do after that? what is the process? thanks

No one here can accurately give you any advice! Your dealing with toomany complicated issues. Immigrations laws (for serveral Countries), is there an arrest record in whatever state you were stopped in, criminal law in more than one Country as well as VISA status. To name a few you need a Lawyer not a website!

yah, you really should have a lawyer.

As far as arrest record goes, I don't know. It's possible you don't. Sometimes in the States, especially wit juveniles, if they pay the restitution amount, the victims agree not to press charges, etc.

In this case, you paid the amount owed, and the place isn't vindictive as they didn't even ban you from showing up.

Were you fingerprinted?

Again, I don't know. Best way is to know for sure, and hire a lawyer.

Good Luck.
