Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft shoplifting

me and my girlfriend got caught on the way out of the big nationwide store. we have had merchandise put in the baby stroller.97-23-963 paper was given to her and i was taken to the police station. girlfriend was issued pre-trial release form. court date is in two weeks. total amount of goods was around 50 dollars. She bail me out for the whole amount of bond.
this is our first time ever incident with authorities. what to expect from court?

Knowing the state would help along with some detail fo event. It seems odd you were jailed but your companion was not when you both particpated in theft

mississippi. they didn fingerprint. girlfrind name spelled incorrectly in the forms and she didn have any id on her at the time of incident. can she just not go to court?

Walking in and pleading guilty is much like writing a blank check. You will get whatever Judge is in mood to give you. Therefore this is not a wise action

Do not plead guilty. Go to court and see what options are available. Do this before your court date or give them a call.

Again, do not plead guilty unless like was said, you want to write a blank check and have a theft conviction on your record.

could judge apply diversity something to this kind od prosecutaion? i am going to call and find out but can u answer if there will be a probation period after satisfactory cpmletion the record wont be on ur file?

Diversion is what your talking about. This is usually part of a plea deal. If you walk in plead guilty your gambling with your future. Talk to your Attorney about Diversion let me arrange deal with DA

You either find your own criminal defense Attorney or if you cannot afford one ask for Public Defender. Then that Attorney will talk to DA about deal

I went to court and asked for public defender. One of the prosecutors told me I would have to plea not guilty to be assigned a public defender on my court date.
Can you just give us an answer if we going to jail for the first time occurense of theft less then 50 dollars?
You saying do not plea guilty it is like writing a blank check but if we do plea not guilty judge could use the full force of the punishment which is 6 months jail and 1000 fine.
I asked attorney here in MS he said just be sincere and plea guilty tell him your honor i made a terrible mistake and he would give us fine and probation for 6 months after which your charges would drop...

NO Judge will not! The not guilty plea buys you a new court date so you can plan your defense or plea deal
