I just got shoplifting charges the other night. The items didn't even add up to $20. They gave me papers to sign and also took my photo. I was told to call these two numbers in two weeks. But I was wanting to call sooner. I want to be able to hurry up and resolve this. I'm very worried about what is going to happen. Also I asked if I was going to be banned from the store. The guy told me no. Which shocked me. I really would love to know what will happen.

You call the numbers, they'll tell you how much money it'll cost in civil demands to make this disappear without the police and courts getting involved. Most people pay the money, behave themselves, everyone ends up happy. How much money? At least $800 to $1,000, sometimes more. They let you make monthly payments, but overall, that costs a little more money. When you call, they'll gladly tell you.

Civil demand on a $20.00 theft should be around $250.00 give or take. The max can vary in some states its only $500.00 in others a $1000.00 again on a $20.00 theft your not looking at $800.00 most likely.

There is no need for you to call them. Forget about it and move on with your life. If they want something they know how to contact you- don't do their work for them.
At this point you don't have a criminal problem to worry about. They only want your money. Even if they had called law enforcement, a petty theft under $50 is typically handled as an infraction with a simple fine and no criminal record (unless you have priors).
Don't stress over this. Either pay what they eventually ask of you or ignore them. Just know that you don't have a legal obligation to pay or do anything at all unless you are ordered to by a court. They will try various scare tactics to get you to pay up. Their phone calls are meaningless. If you receive a letter in the mail you can take it to a local attorney for some quick advice on your options.
