I was caught shoplifting with some friends when younger, got arrested, did community service and was told my record would be expunged. I am now 23 & was caugh shoplifting at a (deleted) in queens the total amount of the merchandise was $100. I was arrested and taken to the precinct where I was fingerprinted and released in under an hour. I have a court date on the 29th of april and I'm worried I'll get jail time, I have a 9 year old brother whos life I play a huge role in, I take him to school, pick him up from school, do hw with him make him dinner and we spend countless hours together, it would kill both of us to be apart from eachother and I'm worried please let me know what to expect

I removed the name of the store for your protection - do not post "personal" information. Betty3

The time to worry about your brother and how your stealing would affect him was before you committed the crime. You may rest assured that law enforcement is still able to see your prior record, expunged or not.

I agree, I would just like to know what to expect, I will never do something like this again, my brother is my life, my pride and joy

Show up oin court as directed, plead not guilty, hire a lawyer, or ask the court if you qualify for a public defender, admit to nothing, don't try to explain, simply keep your mouth shut about the crime.

Then you wait until you meet your lawyer, who will advise you accordingly.

If things are as you say, you'll probably NOT do jail time, but you'll receive a large fine. How much? Can't say, just be patient and wait!!!

TWO last things, this will probably be your last FREE pass for stealing.
You're not very good at it, and even the best thieves get caught.
Do yourself a favor, STOP breaking THEIR laws, ALL of THEIR laws!!!!

Stop talking aout your brother, even if he were your son, it ain't gonna help you.
It makes you look pathetic to a jury, so stop trying to explain how great you are.
THEY will only look at WHY you're before their court.
That's why you should REMAIN SILENT.

Its not about how great you are, how beautiful you are, how many homeless people you help, how good your grades are, just about what you are alleged to have stolen.
Trust me, that can't be explained away or justified, so just zip it for your own good.

You won't do jail time over this. Expect fines and maybe a short probation.
Your juvenile record will have no bearing on this. It will be treated as a first offense.
