Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Shoplifting

I was caught shoplifting when i was 16. I can't remember if I sealed my records. When I got my job they ran a background check and it didn't show up. Does that mean it's off my records....I was recently caught again 9 years later for shoplifting. How bad can this get??? This is my first offense as an adult.
