shots fired

My 15 year old son and two of his friends where taking a short-cut through an open field and a man fired two shots at them. The police where called but would not file a report, saying they did not belive the man shot at the kids, and they where trespassing. What can I do to put this crazy man in jail?

You can speak to the officer's supervisors, and then maybe to the DA. But, if they cannot prove he broke any law, they cannot very well arrest or charge him.

They could have at least taken a report to document the incident in case something else happens with this guy later.
Did the man fire the gun in their general direction? Did he fire it into the air/ground to scare them off?
