I am 19 and live in Ontario Canada. I was caught shop lifting in Walmart, a 5 dollar item. This is my first offence ever. The security guards were very understanding and the police was involved due to the fact they had to check my criminal record. The police officer was very kind with me as he could tell i made a careless mistake that would not happen again. The police let me off with a warning for it being my first offence, my friend in the other hand who is 17 was charged due to the fact that he had previous charges and the police officer gave him a court date right away. Security was very convinced that infact i am a good guy just hanging out with the wrong people. Today i was told by close friends that i should in fact be expecting a letter from the mail, whether it is for civil demand or just walmart saying what i did. I want to know what the envelope looks like, cause i dont want my roommate to grab it and notice is for shoplifting as i am indeed very ashamed for the mistake i committed. I was banned from any walmart for a year and had to sign a paper stating that i understood that i would be arrested if seen. They did not take pictures of me or anything. The undercover guy that caught me stated that if Walmart hasnt contacted me within 3 months, that means that they decided to not press any charges. What should i be expecting? what is the likely hood of getting a civil demand letter or anything in the mail? what are my options? Hoe obvious is it that i shoplifted on the envelope if my roommate was infact to get the mail that day? PLEASE HELP ME, i cant even sleep at night
