Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft should i retain an attorney for first offense petty theft charge?

i was recently arrested for petty theft. i have never been in ANY trouble at all and definitely made a huge mistake. should/ i retain an atty for court appearance?
 
Yes, I would. Plead not guilty. If you cannot afford an attorney, the court will appoint one for you. An attorney can get you the best outcome possible.
 
You are facing criminal charged and criminal record yes you need a Lawyer! When you meet with this Lawyer ask about plea options like ACD or Diversion to protect your record
