I have been in a composing for 10 years & I'm on salary pay. A couple of times I was very sick, pneumonia. The owner refuses to pay me for my time off. I'm not provided with sick days. As this legal? I was forced to use vacation days.

Are you saying you actually did get paid but your employer used vacation pay (vacation days) to pay you when you were out sick? That is not illegal.

No, I was not paid. I was forced to use vacation time to cover my days off. I just want to find out if I should get paid for those days since I'm on salary pay.

So your vacation days were unpaid? That defeats the purpose of having vacation days.
From what you describe it doesn't sound as if your employer is doing anything wrong. Some offer more than others. This is the sort of thing you should look in to when accepting a job.

First off, are you actually saying your vacation days are not paid?

Salary (salaried) is just a payment method - are you exempt or non-exempt? Depending on your answers, there may be some additional questions.

It's not clear whether you were docked time, or whether you were paid for the time by use of vacation. It is also unclear if you are salaried exempt or salaried non-exempt.

Both questions have a direct relationship to the legality of what transpired.
