Does the outcome of a small claims case have any weight in a full civil trial?
Background:
I was a student at Northcentral University. The mentor in my last class did not perform his responsibilities per the University's published policy. When the matter was brought to the attention of the Dean, she academically dismissed me instead of correcting the situation.
I have since filed a small claims suit in my local court against the mentor for the cost of the class plus expenses.
The mentor lives in another state than I or the school. The school is in Arizona while I am in Kansas. The contract with Northcentral Univerisity was electronically signed via the Internet instead of the normal signature on a contract form. There has been no other contact between the mentor, university and myself except through the exchange of emails and files. Personal Jurisdiction in Kansas will be established by citing the Compuserve vs. Patterson (1996) case.
Assuming I win, can the small claims court decision be used as evidence in the planned lawsuit against the university?
