My husband recieved a letter from a collection agency stating that he owns $378 for library fines from when he was 13 years old. This debt is 11 years old, and this is the first he has heard of it. I found that our state sol laws are either 6 or 10, and he is well past that. We requested the debt be validated, and they sent us paper work stating that books were not returned. What can we do now? We do not feel like we should owe this since he was 13, and he doesnt even remember if the books were returned or not. I was told to write them a letter staying the law is 6 or 10 years, but I'm not sure if that is correct. Please help.

A Child is not able to enter into a legal binding contract. He was under 18 when the books were rented, they are going to have to get over it

What do we do though? I tried telling them he was under 18, and they said so, he still caused the fines, and he is responsible. I told them we are not paying it, we will fight it, and he said "You will hear from an attorney then".
