Hi

I sold my 14 years old car with 172K miles to a private party, when I had the car I had faced no major issues, I fixed the emission stuff a year or so ago which I told him, even the state inspection was recently performed 3 months ago. Today the buyer called after 5 days and says the car is smoking and i lied to him, whereas all I said was that the car runs perfect and thats what my ad said too and I never lied and it actually did run good for me. He did a test drive and he liked it, he even told me that the engine is not making any noise which is good when he saw that car, I am actually moving out of the country so I had to sell my car and I had mentioned that to him that it was the reason for me to sell the car.

I missed his call and it was a voicemail, but i am worried that once I leave the country there is nothing behind me which will be a problem for me to return if I have to in future..

need some help, if I should do anything before I leave?

It's an as-is sale. He's out of luck and you're off the hook, unless you want to be nice and help him out. Flee before he hunts you down :)

You have nothing to worry about. These things happen during private party sales. You did nothing wrong and don't have a thing to be concerned about.

Don't respond to him. If he does manage to get you on the phone say the following, just once:

You drove it, you bought it, you own it, not my problem, goodbye.

Then hang up and block his calls and texts, whatever.

Thank you, I will try this.... he has not called me again, however there as a voicemail and never called back until now

Thank you, I feel a little better now reading these comments, as I was honest in what I said to him.... 5 days later.... not sure what it is, he has had the car for all these days

You sold it "as is" (private sale). He could have had a mechanic check it out before he bought it. You are off the hook.
