Hello ... i sold a pickup november 6 of 2016 ... there was a bill of sale but i lost it ... never went to dmv to fill out transfer paper to show i sold it ... gave title to the guy signed but not notarized or anything ... the guy apparently never changed it to his name and got the pickup impounded may 2 of 2017 .... i got a letter from the towing company showing it was there i called and they said it was $560 up to now to get it out $18 per day after today ... my question is can i just get a duplicate title and go get it out and keep it without any legal issues ? ....or is it illegal since the title was signed over ?? Its still under my name and id rather not have any charges against my name ... instead im trying to get it out and sell it to get my money back for the fees . Thanks in advance

If you're SMART, you'll stay as far away from that truck as Democrats are from Republicans, or a cat from a pit bull.

Do you have no way of contacting the buyer? Has the tow company had any contact with him? The tow company may have driver information, or at least police information that could lead you to the owner.

If you retrieve the truck he could potentially come after you in court. He may be trying to get the truck himself but can't because of the title issue. It would be risky, but you could legally retrieve it.

I'd at least investigate and try to clear things up with the buyer before doing anything.

Hopefully you kept copy of the bill of sale you gave him, then you should be able to present that to the tow company. It would be illegal to get a duplicate title and take possession of the truck.

So you never reported to DMV (or your insurance company?) that you sold the truck. You lost the bill of sale. The only "proof" that you no longer own this truck is the title you handed over to someone else. Please tell me you weren't stupid enough to leave the plates on the truck when you sold it.

OP said they lost the bill of sale...

I see that now sorry. There should be a form to fill out to notify Oklahoma that the vehicle has been sold. Can probably be done online.
