Sold car buyer never came

I sold my car on Craigslist the buyer sent me the money and money to pay the agency that was picking the car up frm me that was 2 weeks ago now the man is telling me he will send me a check for 1400 and I need to send it to the agency! My question is how long does he have to come pick up the car before I can get rid of it because I can't afford to keep it on my insurance and where I stay all cars have to have tags and insurance to be parked in the parking lot

Are you sure that this isn't the kind of scam where somebody sends you a check, you deposit it, write your check to somebody else, they cash it, then the first check bounces and your "buyer" is nowhere to be found?

That might be the least of your worries.

The whole thing seems fishy to me.

Make sure you keep the car insured and tagged until you figure all this out and the car is gone.

When you sign over the title, make sure you fill in the buyer's section, don't leave it open. Make photocopies of both sides. Also make two duplicate bills of sale, both signed by you and the buyer (or his agent) and you keep one. Keep copies permanently.

Notify the DMV of the sale immediately and keep copies of that, too.

But, first, make sure you actually have real money before you do anything else.

I suggest that you demand the next check or money order be made out to the agent, not to you. The response to that will tell you if this is a scam or not.

How much did you sell the car for? Year? Make? Model? Mileage?

Has the previous "check" cleared your bank?
I suggest you investigate that before you do anything more.

If the check has cleared, request the $1,400 be in the form of a money order.
If the money order arrives, make sure you check with the ISSUER of the MO to ascertain its legitimacy.

If it a said to be legitimate, take the MO to your bank.
Deposit it with a bank officer, but send it "for collections".
If it survives that process, you'll have the funds in your account in about a week to ten days.

If it doesn't, you'll know you're being scammed.
