Property: I am almost 31 y/o, male, and in the US Army. I am currently deployed to Iraq and am coming back to my home station of Fort Riley, Kansas in about 3 weeks. I married my wife on 6 Sept. 08, right before I deployed, and filed for divorce over here through our local JAG office on 16 Aug. 09, so we haven't even been married one year yet. I have many concerns, but let me start with my property. I own everything outright and paid for. My truck, my personal belongings, furniture etc... is all paid off and I hold the title. This has been that way since before I even met my wife, and she never financially contributed anything to our marriage, but instead I pay her car payment and her child support she owes to a previous spouse. Can she take half of my belongings if/when we go to court, considering all of the mentioned circumstances?
Alimony: She is capable of working and is currently looking for employment, but really has no money right now, or any personal belongings, but then again she never really has owned much in her past. She was employed in Arizona until she moved out with me on base housing during late January of 2009, so we really have never physically cohabitated together at all. Before January 2009, and back before I met her, she had a job in Phoenix at the same place she lived, which gave her cheaper rent. She is in the process right now of looking for a job in Kansas. One prospect is Wal-Mart which pays $1,120 per month (Gross), and the other prospect is somewhere else that she won't disclose to me, of which supposedly pays "Good Money", whatever that means. The reason I ask is because I'm curious if the court would make me pay maintenance/alimony for any period of time due to the mentioned situation?
Savings: I have given her access to almost $2500 per month tax free for the last 11 months that I have been deployed, but she chose to not save anything the whole time, even though I was able to save about $8000 myself while here, while I paid myself way less per month from my own salary. Can the court order me give her my savings because she doesn't have anything? To give you guys an idea of what her bills are: Car = $250 p/mo, Child support to ex-spouse = $250 p/mo., her parents pay her cell phone and I currently pay the insurance. I know this was long, but would surely appreciate any assistance. Thank you for your time, Jeff.
