Hello,
I Am A North Carolina Resident And Was Ticketed For Speeing 51 In A 35. First Ticket Ever In Nc And Way Over 15+ Yrs In Any Other State I Lived. Can I Do A Prayer For Judgment? The Officer Told Me That The Judge Would Probably Reduce The Speed Because I Have A Clean Record, But I Dont Know If I Should Take That Chance. I Have Also Read Somthing About Getting Reduced To 9 Above Speed Limit. Do I Need A Lawyer For This? Should I Contact My Insurance Agent?i Have Been Told By Others That "johnston County", Here In Nc, Is Very Tough. Oh, And One Other Thing, How Do I Know How Much This Is Going To Cost Me?
Thank You For Your Time.

See if you can't go in and see the prosecutor prior to your court date and get it reduced to a nine over which is no points. Save the PFJ.

Thank you for your reply. I just called the DA office and was informed that it was a "conflict of interest" to meet with DA before a court date. They said for me to show up to my court date and plead my case to the judge. Does this sound like I need a lawyer? Or can I walk in ask for reduced to 9 above or PJC myself?

When I received a ticket a couple of years ago, I was like you (clean driving record for over 20 years) so I showed up to court and before my name was up, the DA turned around and offered me a deal - which would do nothing for me because the points would still be on my license. I plead the case myself and the judge gave me no points in exchange for driving school attendance and court fees. Your chances are as good with a lawyer as they are without. Good Luck!

Usually they will reduce it when you show for court. However, attorney fees in NC are very reasonable and it may be cheaper to pay the attorney rather than waste a day in traffic court.
