Last week I got a ticket on the GW Parkway for going 60 in a 40. The cop said nothing about reckless driving, simply said I could pay the ticket online if I wanted and that was about it. He was a Park Police officer and cited me under the CFR, not State code. And it just said "speeding". Now I'm wondering if the VA DMV will see it as reckless driving since it was 60 in a 40, which is 20 over. The ticket doesn't say reckless driving, but I'm not sure since it's under Federal regulations. Has anyone experienced this? Any thoughts? I was just going to go and pay the ticket and take the points. It's my first offense in 16 years of driving, but now I'm worried that if I pay the ticket it could come back as reckless driving in VA and haunt me. I'm debating whether or not to get an attorney to fight it down in case.

Virginia Speeding Ticket

It will be posted as a speeding ticket. I think it will be four points but it could be six. Talk to your insurance agent and see if your rates will go up. Then you can decide whether it is worth the $500 or so for an attorney.

RE: Virginia Speeding Ticket

Thank you. I am just very concerned it could be transferred over as reckless driving. It's just confusing trying to understand what impacts this ticket has since it was on the GW Parkway (federal) vs. VA. I'm more concerned about it being reckeless driving and being a misdemeanor in VA.
