Ok, so this one is kinda messed up.. thats why I'm not just paying it.
I was on my way home from an outing with my mom, sister, and her boyfriend.. all 4 of us were in the car. We stopped at a stoplight, in "moderate" traffic. I was in the middle lane of a 3 lane road. I was coming off of that stoplight still in traffic about 300 yds away from the light. I notice a cop pulling off of the side of the road and think "he must have written a ticket." He turns on his lights.. waits for me to pass, then pulls me over. He walks to the passenger door and says "You were going 55 in a 45, license and insurance please." My family has recently moved to New Mexico and I am a student in Missouri, and used to live in Oklahoma so I still have my Oklahoma drivers license, so that is what he has. He did not ask for new information, did nothing but glance at my insurance information, and wrote the ticket for the wrong date. He did not even take my information back to his car and run any type of check. He did it all from the side of the car. Then before i could even pull back into traffic, he was already preparing to pull someone else over. I was not speeding and don't even see how he could say he "clocked" me going 55 in a 45.
At one point in our conversation, he gave me a court date and I said I was going to contest it. The date was for after I was already supposed to be in college. He said that I should just pay the ticket since its only $59 and not worry about it. Something about that seems fishy to me as well.
I was not speeding, and I have 3 other witnesses that will attest to that in court.
What do you think I should do?
Thanks,
Red
