This past weekend, I received a speeding ticket from the New York State Park Police for traveling 74 in a 55 zone. I was driving a New Jersey-registered car that belonged to the parents of my girlfriend. Up until this weekend, I hadn't received a speeding ticket in 10 years or so (never before in NY or NJ). Is there a possilibility that this ticket could impact the insurance rates of my girlfriend's parents? Given that Alexandria Bay is about 7 hours from where I live, I don't think I can't fight this. So, I may have to come clean with my girlfriend's parents.

Thanks.

I don't see how this could ever affect their insurance, since they were not driving the car and there is no way any record would go back to the car. The ticket was issued to you under your driver license. It could/would affect any policy that you have under a policy with you listed as a driver.

If you have a NJ license, the ticket will not show on your record since NY does not report tickets to the other states. If you have a NY license, you need to contest the ticket since this will kick in the surcharge for the next three years.
