I received a speeding ticket for going 66 in a 45 zone a few weeks ago. I plead not guilty to request a trial. What I'd like to do is try and plea down to a lesser offense with either less or no points involved. This was the first ticket I've received in about 10 years so my driving record was spotless before this. Anyway, I'd like to meet with the officer to see if he can cut me a break on this and let me plea to a lesser offense. I just don't want my insurance rates to sky rocket over one mistake. Before anyone bashes me, I realize I made an error in judgement and telling me too slow down, or telling me I'm a menace to the roads, won't help me at this point. I'm a safe driver who always obeys the traffic laws. I just made one mistake a few weeks ago and got caught. Anyway, any advice on what I'm supposed to do, the day of the trial, would be appreciated. Should I show up there early and tell the clerk that I'd like to talk to the officer before the trial? How should I handle this? Thank You for any advice you guys could give me. BTW, if this helps any, I was pulled over in North Strabane Twp., Washington County, PA on Rt. 19S. Thanks again.

It is pretty much of an assembly line. You should negotiate with either the officer or ADA for a 3111a which is no points. Usually not a problem with a clean record.

Thank you for your response. Should I do this the day of the trial before it starts or can I actually go in there before the day of the trial and talk to the officer about this? Like maybe a few days or a week beforehand? BTW, I'm taking a defensive driving course right now too. I just want to show the judge and officer how serious I am about this. If I can go in there with a certificate stating that I passed this course, do you think this will also help my case. Thanks.

The cop has no say. He is not the prosecutor. If he is prosecuting the case, you can sue.

I would challange the cop and his "device" that got the speed. They are not accurate, and I have yet to meet a cop who know's how the damn things actually work.

Pennsylvania Speeding Ticket

It just depends on how the particular traffic court works. I think in Pennsylvania you have to wait until the date of your arraignment on the speeding ticket. The certificate certainly won't hurt.

if you have a clean record, then you wont get bashed for anything. judges do "deferrals" which are designed to motivate you not to get another ticket within a certain period of time. for example, i am currently on a 2 year deferral,(placed on this deferral about 3 weeks ago), and i got another speed racing ticket tonight. that means that the deferral is no longer active and the previous ticket i got will go on my record.
