So, as the title implies, I was cited for speeding in the city of Spencer, TN. Let me set the scene:

I was driving down a four lane highway with a 15-20 foot grass median and guardrails in between the lanes. I saw the cop from about 1/2 a mile off, and immediately slowed down. When we passed each other i was going under 60Mph. He went about 1/2 a mile further down, turned around, a thats when i got the blue lights. He asked how fast i was going, and i said 60. He never told me the speed i was supposedly going, and the ticket does not include any radar information, but says "MF" next to radar, and "ou" under that. He ended up writing me a ticket for 80 in a 65.

My main goal from this is to prevent anything from going on my record, or license. I have been told by MANY locals that that court makes all of its money from speeding tickets, and they highly suggest not fighting it, but attempting to plead it down and pay part of the fine, and try to get a driving class assigned from the judge, so that it won't go on my record. I was also told to plead nolo, but i have plead nolo in a different state for a different offense years ago, so not sure that is still an option, especially for a speeding ticket.

So, should i get a lawyer to fight it, fight it alone, hire a lawyer to plead it down to driving class, or attempt to plead it down myself?
I just don't understand how a cop saying it "looked" like i was going 80 can possibly hold up in court? And if worst comes to worst and i do fight it and lose, what is a possible next step? I was told about possibly doing a driving class to have it removed, but i'm not exactly sure what needs to be done for that?

Thanks in advance!

The locals may know what others don't.
I wouldn't ignore them.
The dirty little secret is that many communities run such similar organized revenue generation scams.
One more detail, very few avoid or lessen paying the tribute they demand.
Traffic school is a sure fire fix for the ailment that afflicts you.
You could consult with a lawyer. That can occasionally save a few afflicted with similar ailments.
You might also ask about DEFERRED ADJUDICATION. Google it, and then see if the court in TN will allow such a plea.

Otherwise, Bon chance.
