Speeding Ticket = Jail?

My jurisdiction is: Arkansas

I was cited for 60 in a 30 on a rural road in Arkansas. When I appeared in court intending to pay my fine the judge told me that if I plead guilty I would be sent to jail. I have been driving 12 years, never had a speeding ticket or even been in a car accident. What are my options? I am terrified.

The problem is you were going 30 over the limit. In many states 30 over moves it from a simple speeding violation to some sort of reckless driving, and it can include jail time.

You need to get a lawyer on this one. There are lawyers that deal just with traffic citations, and your only hope is to get something thrown out or reduced down.
