I am writing this because I absolutely feel like I was a victim of a police officer unjustly giving me a speeding ticket. I am 30 years old and I never speed. I have 1 speeding ticket on my driving record from the 14 years of me driving. I felt violated enough to record the whole interaction on video. I decided to put my phone on record and put it on my cup holder. The cop pulled me over to give me a ticket for going 45MPH in a 35 MPH zone. He pulled me over approximately 25 feet from the 35MPH sign. We were so close he was pointing at the speed limit sign in the video. "You were actually going RELATIVELY the speed limit, then you sped up to about 47 then you started COMING BACK DOWN AS YOU PASSED the 35 and I LOCKED you in at 45 MPH." So he admits I was going EXACTLY the speed limit 45MPH before the 35MPH sign, and admits I was slowing down once I saw the 35MPH sign. There was no sign preparing me for the 35MPH zone, it just snuck up on me. He also used the words "relatively the speed limit," and "locked you in at 45MPH." I am in the state of North Carolina and it was in Onslow County. Can I use this video in court? and can I represent myself in court? or do I absolutely need a lawyer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
