I recently (sometime in mid-december) got a speeding ticket on I-40, while heading back to Raleigh - 80 in a 65. I'm 19 years old, and while I've heard that you can get a "Prayer for Judgement," I'm not certain if that's the best option for me. This is my first speeding ticket, or more specifically, my first violation of any kind with the law. I don't want my insurance to go up, and I basically want to get out of this without spending a whole lot of money. Thanks in advance for your help.

Respectfully ask for a reduction to 9 over first, there will be no insurance points for a first offense. Fine + court costs will be around $130. If they won't reduce it, plead not guilty and come back with an attorney.

If convicted, this will earn you 4 insurance points which is a 90% increase in your insurance the next three years. The attorney will probably cost less than one years increase in insurance.

FYI -- if the officer wrote it for 81, you would also risk a suspension of your license.
