My son received a speeding ticket , 84 in a 70, and was cited for an expired inspection sticker. The trooper told him that he should just show up in court and show a current inspection and that charge would be dropped. He also said my son should ask for PFJ on the speeding ticket. This is the first ticket he has ever had. Should he get a lawyer or just show up and handle this on his own?

The Troopers advise was correct.

If convicted, he will get 4 insurance points which will be a 90% increase in his insurance.

A lawyer should be able to plea it down to 9 over which will be no insurance points for a first conviction. The cost will be less than the first years insurance increase.

He can try on his own (if old enough). If not successful, plead not guilty and come back with legal help.
