Just trying to get some guidance on how to deal with this. I know Im not guilty and I refuse to pay the $654 Im being charged.
The ticket says I must appear in court.
This is what happened,
I approached a pulled over police car slowing down, getting as far as possible, away from it and to my left to pass it.
After I passed the car, the cop got in the patrol car and pulled me over. The cop had a rude attitude asking sarcastically if I knew the mover over law. I replied I did but a lane change wasn't possible because of 2 cars on the next lane.
He yelled I was going 65 mph (I was going under 55 when I passed him, also, he was walking back to his car, so really how was he able to determine my speed?) and that I could've "fucking killed him" and I could've "fucking hit him".
I replied I wasn't speeding, that I slowed down and asked why was he speaking to me like that, I wasn't being disrespectful to him.
He said "You could've fucking kill me", asked for my license and went to his car to write the ticket. While he was in his car, I counted 5 cars doing what I did. I mentioned the fact to him.
He apologized with "I was pissed off". He told me I could go to court, try to work something out to reduce the ticket, also, that I could plead not guilty to keep it off my record.

How should I approach this case? What would be the next steps to follow?

Thank you,

Carlos

You can go to court, plead not guilty & plead your case to the judge. Or -- you can talk to a traffic law attorney & see what they might be able to do for you.

If you believe the officer's conduct was unprofessional, you are free to contact his chief of police.

The chief (likely her or his designee), will instruct you with how to initiate a citizens complaint.
