I have a attorney trying to contact me to serve a subpoena. First of all I was a witness. This was a family dispute between a father in son that got way out of hand. I ended up being hit by a shovel (didn't press charges but filled out a report). Since then the 2 have made amends and all is well. I really don't want to get in this being that it's family and who wants to testify against family had I have known I didn't need to fill a report out I wouldn't have. So I guess my question is do I have a choice I'm calling the attorney back tomorrow and would like to know if I myself have rights. Can I say I want no part in this matter?

If you are issued a subpoena you will be required to obey it or risk the penalties (possible jail time).

Or, you can hire an attorney and move to quash the subpoena, but that could be pricey and unless you truly lack any relevant information on the matter, you will likely lose.
