im 19 and last year when I was 18 I stole from my job. The loss prevention guy called me into the office and I knew by the way he was talking to me that he was suspuscious. I've never done anything like this before, I always thought I would never do something like this because before it went against my morals and still does so that's why I just came out and told him the truth. He made me write down all the details I told him during our conversation and sign that same paper, I was fired, obviously. He asked me would I pay the money back so I said yes. The police werent called, I wasnt arrested, and I didnt have to go to court. I payed the money back within the time frame, it was months ago but I think it was like $148.43. I've never had any criminal history or anything so I wanted to know will this go on my record?

Whether it goes on your record or not, your former employer can tell all prospective employers the reason for your termination.

Based on what you posted, it sounds like there probably will not be a record. However; if this was a retail store & they are a member, they can report the theft to the National Retail Theft Database where other members can check it on a prospective employee.

What you describe won't smear your pristine criminal history. The police weren't involved, and you weren't prosecuted. If it happened as you related it, you can safely say,you have no criminal history.

Thank you! I'm not worried about people finding out from my former employer or the database, but I got my answer so thanks again.

You're certainly welcome.
