I just got fired today from theft from my job. I was called into the office today and spoke with a LP over the phone and at first he was asking me questions about other employee's and my background. I did admit to the theft I think it totaled around 250.00 by my calculations. I am a single mom and I was in desperate need of some groceries and I had a moment of weekness. I admitted to everything and signed a note saying I would pay back the money and also wrote out a letter over where the LP basically told me how to word it. I then hung up with him and was told by my DM that I was terminated. While on the phone with the LP he stressed to me how everything was going to be confidential only myself and him and the DM would know what was said. Not two hours after I got home I received a call from three people telling me they had heard what had happened and the story they were getting from the people that worked there was a lot diffreent,.

So my questions are......

- What do I do know as far as everything goes with the civil note?
- Is there a way I can get the other people I work with to stop spreading these rumors without having to talk to them directly? This is a very small town so news travels fast.
- Since the police were not involved does this mean they are not gonna prosecute?

Well, you can't stop anyone from sharing the truth.

The civil demand should address the amount they want from you, and as a very general rule if you pay as agreed they'll hold off on having you charged.

There isn't much you can do to stop people from talking. After all, as noted, they are telling the truth. Since no police were called, agree they most likely are not going to pursue further/prosecute if you pay the civil demand.

When you get the civil demand request in the mail, it will indicate how much you are to pay.

I can only add two comments:

1 - Don't break any laws. Resist the devil, he's very persistent.

2 - Never, ever admit to anything. It only helps in church, synagogue, mosque, or religious teachings. In all other things, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT. BE SMART, USE IT. BE SMARTER, ALWAYS OBEY ALL LAWS!!!!

Your Civil Demand will likely be the state max which could be $500.00 to $1000.00. Most Civil recovery services (Law firms) will accept payment plans just be sure to pay on time or face serious consequences these firms dont mess around and can triple your fine if late. The law is on their side not yours! You cannot prevent anyone for saying you wer fired for theft however many companies avoid saying more than yes you were worked there and if your rehirable or not to avoid legal consequences. Pay your civil demand and put this matter matter behind you it could have been much worse!
