I went into a major retailer this past Saturday in Ohio to do some shopping. While shopping I realized that I had left my credit card at home. It was then I made the dumb mistake to just take the items that I wanted. As I was leaving the store the security door went off-I just kept walking, the stores employee had tried to stop me & asked if he could see what I had I said no & preceeded to my car. As I left I believe I noticed an employee reading my cars plate. I was worried & upset with myself! I couldnt get past the gulit of what I had done, also I am worried of the police envolment. First thing the next morning, I called a neighboring town (same reailer) & spoke with a manager.(I was scared to go to the actual store I stole from) I told him what I had done & my worries. He told me to just come in and either pay for items or just return them. So I took in the items & paid the them. After leaving that store, I called the store that I had taken the items from & told that manager what I had done. (hoping this would make things right) This manager was concerned with the items not being on their system & asked me to send the reciept to her. I said I would but I am now concern this is not the right thing to do!? She also asked me the time I was in the store & my description. I know that this is so they can look back on the video. I have thought the day through & realized I had taken some more items that I had forgotten about. The dollar amount is not high, but I realize that that doesnt probably matter. I am just worried that the police will be coming to my door and arresting me. I just need answers of what best to do or what usually happens.

Not sure what your actual question is. Can they press charges? Yes If they took your plates they may already have filed a report with Police. Your refusal to stop didnt help. Contacting either store was not smartest thing to do either. You should consult an Attorney to see what he/she feel is safest way to handle this. If you do show the streo the reciept keep either a copy or the original.

Thanks for the info. I guess my questions are: Would the police be coming to arrest me? or does something else happen? And if they press charges how soon does it usually take to find that out.
I thought by contacting the stores, it would somehow help fix my dumb mistake, but as soon as I had done it-I thought I had screwed up even more! I was afraid to stop at the store-cause I was scared of being arrested.

Most of your questions we can't answer. We dont know when or if criminal charges will be filed and how Police will deal with it

Always stop. You make a bad situation worse by running.
If it were my store I'd press charges just because you ran.
