My jurisdiction is: Indiana

My daughters' friend spent the night a couple months ago. Her Nintendo DSI and my gun came up missing. I got the gun back from her but she claims she didn't take the DSI. Now that school is back in, mutual friends have stated they saw her playing it over the summer. How can I get it back w/out proof?

You are probably going to need to call the police, and have them talk to the witnesses. I would first tell the "friend" that you intend to do so, and if you do, you will have no choice but to mention that the gun was stolen as well, although recovered. Hopefully if she realizes she's facing a felony gun charge, she might just cough it up.

Also, do you have a receipt from when the DS was puchased, or the original box? Those should have the serial number on it, which would positivly ID the DS.

Just for reference, the DS Lite serial numbers are located on the back with the bar code. Directly over the "Slot 2" label. Unfortunately these serial numbers are not stamped into the plastic, but printed on and covered by a thin plastic sticker that often times comes off from normal usage. These serial number are known to wear off. If you can't find the box hopefully your daughter registered it online. You will be able to get the serial number that way, as it is required to register. This will also be very handy to prove that it is her's even if the serial number has worn out because when you connect it online the serial number is used to ID it.
