Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Stolen Trailer Re sold

Who is responsible to refund money paid for a stolen trailer. I purchased a trailer I did not know was stolen. I re sold the trailer and the thief has been jailed. Does the thief pay for restitution to the buyer or do I have to refund the money before I get the restitution?

Buyer beware...

If you had no knowledge of the theft then no case can be made against you (though it seems that you should have known). Was this a trailer that is not registered with the state for some reason?
