Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft Store name, cal... stealing

OK so i took an item out of the box and put the box back on the shelf... so i took the item and put in my pocket.... then i paid for the rest of the items with my debit card... after i paid i started to walk out then a bunch of emploees surrounded me and told me h=they have me on camera and the cops are on their way.. but i just walked out and drove off..
Im not sure if they wrote down my license plate number, but im not sure if they can trace my debit card...
also im thinking if i should return the item asap tomorow morning, or it will just get me into more trouble...

anyone know store name policy on this kinda stuff? california

If they contacted Police they can find you either through your debit card or license if they got your plate. If they filed a Police report expect Police contact in the near future.

I would...

#1 - return the item
#2 - stop stealing
#3 - When the police call...do not speak to them without a lawyer present.

It is the cops job to get an arrest. They will lie to you to get you to confess. If they do have you on camera you are screwed.

The next time you get caught stealing, don't make it worse by fleeing. When the cops find you, they will make sure you get charged to the fullest extent because you decided not to stick around.

If you return item (as suggested and right thing to do) return item to a manager and get his/her name. document time, date etc. This proves return of item and might get case dropped although there is no guarantee. I suspect they will still want to seek Civil damages
