This might get lengthy, but any advise would be appreciated. Let me start with this...My father-in-law is disabled, double leg amputee, and is in a wheel chair.
1. He rented an apartment and found that he could not take care of himself properly.
2. My wife and I paid off his lease and moved him into a nursing home.
3. Upon final move out and landlord move out we went over the damage caused by my father-in-law and his wheelchair and carelessness.
4. We understood that we would be charged for ruined carpet and other minor damages.
5. We were charged nearly $2000 after the deposit was deducted.
($700 dishwasher + $200 install, $1500 carpet install, plue more)
6. In Janurary 2008 we asked to see an itemized receipt.
7. Landlord claimed that this was not possible because the actual damages were more that what she charged. ????????
8. We spoke with the Realty company, who owns the building, and went back and forth. Realty said talk to landlord, landlord said talk to realty, and so on.
9. At the end of February the landlord stated she would get us the said receipts, but we would be charged more. ???????
10. Today, April 12, 2008 and we get these receipts. One receipt is dated April 2001 and noticeably has items blacked, written in, and all phone numbers are scratched out?????
We are not trying to duck our obligation, but this whole situation make us believe we are being taken advantage of. Any advise?
