My Ex husband left me in a very bad place. He moved us into a duplex based on our combined income, then moved in with our landlord and divorced me. Leaving me a single parent w a single income. His name was on the lease and all utilities. I couldn't afford to move, barely able to keep utilities on. A yr later she(landlord, now girlfriend) terminates tenancy. Financially burdened to move. Now 1 mo post moving she is suing me for 3000 plus for alleged non payment of rent ,utilities, damages, etc. Can I sue or counter sue (Civil?) for the distress caused by their affair and the situation it left me in?

All you can do is go to court and give your defense. Since you were not on the lease though, you should have moved out if you could not afford the place. Let a judge decide if you owe her money.

Just a clarification, I did pay rent for the time that I lived there, all except the last month. It was just an extremely difficult time financially and emotionally.

What damages is she claiming? Did you pay the utilities at all? If the husband never transfered the utilities out of his name then I would say that is not your responsibility. All you can do is go to court and let the judge decide.
