My jurisdiction is: New York
A few days ago, I received a very confusing summons; In New York City, if one is an original creditor, no license number is required on the complaint. This is how the complaint appeared:
ABC Company Plaintiff
a/p/o Citibank
In one of the items on complaint, it read:
Plaintiff is the original creditor and is not required to be licensed by the NYC Department of consumer affairs.
The only outstanding that I had with Citibank was sold and it was paid for in 2004. I do not have any paperwork on this and the original buyer of the account is no longer in business. I am unemployed at the moment and cannot afford an attorney. Do you have any suggestions on how I can answer? I researched this company and it seem like they're a collection agency. Thank you
