Say you know some information about Bob and a fight he was in, because you were there. The police come after you asking for his name, and to go give a statement downtown. What has to be done? Do you have to give the name?

You don't have to give the name without talking to your attorney. Don't talk with them if you feel a crime which could implicate you was committed. Get advice from a lawyer first. If you are in no way involved, then you have to be a good citizen and do the right thing.

Well let's say John got punched and knocked out by a guy, Jerk. someone he was with that night, Bob, jumped in to help him out,and beat up Jerk. Bob left the scene and the police are now asking John for Bob's information. Is there anyway John could get in trouble?

Yes, John might get in trouble. A lot depends on the details and the laws in your un-named state.
