Teaching son to drive

I was teaching my son to drive and he had an accident involving another vehicle, he is 16. He does not have his permit. I received a ticket for allowing an unauthorized person to operate a motor vehicle. It is a misdemeanor. I pled mute and will now need to speak to the assistant prosecutor to try and negotiate the punishment. Any advice?
