Aloha,
I am a Hawaiian Telcom customer in Hawaii. I pay for my monthly residential landline by automatic withdrawal from my checking account. Each month the bill is about $36.71. My September bill is $240.11. The fine print says "This bill includes charges from a previous billing period(s) whose processing was inadvertently delayed" (2/28/2008-08/27/2008). The customer service representative says that I was undercharged for 7 months. They claim that I have to pay these charges because they provided the service. These charges are for basic monthly service not long distance telephone calls.
I feel that I paid what I was billed for and am not liable for the company error. I feel that if I had been aware that the bill was incorrect I could have selected another call plan or telephone service. Am I really responsible to pay those back charges? I would appreciate your suggestions and comments.

If I were you, I would request a breakdown of what those charges are made up of. If they are legit, then you should do the obvious which is pay the bill, but, if they cannot give you that, you should dispute them untill they give you the exact components of the charge. Hope this helps!
